REGINA, SK – May 20, 2026 — SK Arts announced today that starting in 2027, the organization will recognize and celebrate Saskatchewan artists with a Lifetime Achievement Award honouring outstanding contributions to the province’s arts and cultural landscape. CEO Lisa Bird-Wilson shared the agency’s plans to execute a new vision to celebrate excellence, cultural impact and creative leadership across Saskatchewan.
“Saskatchewan is home to extraordinary creative talent,” said Bird-Wilson in a statement. “We want to ensure artists at every stage of their careers are celebrated in meaningful and lasting ways, and that emerging artists have something to look forward to.”
Beginning in 2027, the initiative will place greater emphasis on celebrating artists whose work has shaped communities, influenced culture and inspired future generations. The Lifetime Achievement Award will recognize an individual whose artistic career demonstrates sustained excellence and a lasting contribution to Saskatchewan’s creative sector.
Board Chair Ian Rea said the move reflects a renewed commitment to recognizing individuals who have shaped Saskatchewan’s arts and cultural landscape.
“The Lifetime Achievement Award honours artists and cultural leaders whose sustained contributions have made an enduring impact on the province’s creative sector,” Rea explained. “SK Arts is committed to long-term artistic excellence and leadership, which are essential to a sector generating cultural, economic and individual career value.”
In addition to the new Award, SK Arts says the 2027 direction will include expanded artist recognition initiatives with details to come later this year.
Specific details on the 2027 execution of the event will be announced in the coming months.
